Patnitop is situated in idyllic surroundings of Kashmir valley. It’s away from environmental pollution. This place is really worth visiting. There are many temples on the way to patnitop. One of the famous temples around this resort is the Sudh Mahadev temple. It is one of the famous pilgrimages around this area which is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
This holy spot close to Patnitop is located at a height of 1225 m, about 120 kms from Jammu and 8 kms from Kud or Patnitop. Sudh Mahadev has its own archaeological importance. It stands on the banks of the holy River Devak. During the night of full moon of saawan many pilgrims visits here to offer their prayers and worship the lord shiva’s trishul and mace which belongs to lord Shiva. The holy river divak originates at Sudh Mahadev and gets invisible amid rocks a few kms downstream. 3 days of grand mela is held here every year in the month of July and august. Visitors enjoy a lot this very 3 days of fair and the whole environment looks very captivating. Visitor’s sings, dance and felts trilled to be there.
There are other temples in the city also which includes Shiva temple, Gauri Kund temple, Ranbireshwar temple, Peer Khoh Cave temple and the Parmandal temple complex these temples have the statutes of different deities.
Near Sudh Mahadev is the famous spring Gauri Kund. Visitors enjoy seeing the glorious spring which looks very fascinating. People believe that Goddess Parvati used to take a bath here before commencing her prayers at Sudh Mahadev. Other religious place which is only few kms away from Sudh Mahadev is Mantalai. Mantalai located at an altitude of 2000 m is a place which is full of virgin beauty and extreme serenity. It is the belief of many pilgrims that Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati got married here.
You can easily visit here from patnitop by bus route or by hiring taxi. Sudh Mahadev is only few kms away from patnitop. Also regular transport is available from Jammu.
